Through My Cat’s Eyes

I watch it on TV:
Another hurricane hits,
Floods sweep away lives,
Fires wipe out forests.

My cat sits by the window,
Excited to see the rain fall.

I read the papers:
A virus continues to spread,
Millions more face poverty,
Whole families are lost to famine.

My cat purrs contentedly,
As he waits for yet more treats.

I hear the news:
Protesters take to the streets,
Refugees drown by the dozen,
The nuclear threat remains.

My cat curls up and softly sleeps,
Blissfully oblivious.
